Physiology of the mesenteric circulation.

چکیده
The purpose of this educational exercise is to describe some of the salient features of the physiology of the mesenteric circulation, focusing particularly on the regulation of its blood flow. The reader is referred to several recent reviews of the subject that are more extensively referenced with original sources (5, 6, 10, 11). Although the terms “mesenteric circulation” and “splanchnic circulation” are sometimes used synonymously, they are distinct: the mesenteric circulation refers specifically to the vasculature of the intestines, whereas the splanchnic circulation provides blood flow to the entire abdominal portion of the digestive system. In a 70.kg resting adult human male in good health, the major inflow vessel of the mesenteric circulation, the superior mesenteric artery, delivers about 12% of the cardiac output and is therefore unsurpassed in size among all branches of the entire aorta. This vessel supplies the entire small intestine, the proximal half of the colon, and part of the pancreas. to the heart

Relaxatory Effect of Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid (GABA) is Mediated by Same Pathway in Diabetic and Normal Rat Mesenteric Bed vessel
Objective(s) Diabetes related dysfunction of resistance vessels is associated with vascular occlusive diseases. Vasorelaxant agents may have a role in control of diabetic cardiovascular complications. Gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) has demonstrated to cause vasorelaxation. The present study was designed to determine i) the vasorelaxatory effect of GABA on diabetic vessels and ii) the role of e...
متن کاملFunctional adaptation of bovine mesenteric lymphatic vessels to mesenteric venous hypertension.
Lymph flow is the primary mechanism for returning interstitial fluid to the blood circulation. Currently, the adaptive response of lymphatic vessels to mesenteric venous hypertension is not known. This study sought to determine the functional responses of postnodal mesenteric lymphatic vessels. We surgically occluded bovine mesenteric veins to create mesenteric venous hypertension to elevate me...
متن کاملReduced constrictor reactivity balances impaired vasodilation in the mesenteric circulation of the obese Zucker rat.
Obesity causes whole body insulin resistance and impaired vasodilation to nitric oxide (NO). Because NO is a major contributor to the regulation of mesenteric blood flow, the mesenteric circulation of obese animals is faced with reduced capacity to increase flow and increased demand for flow associated with elevated consumption of food. This study hypothesized that insulin resistance impairs NO...
متن کاملNeural programming of mesenteric and renal arteries.
There is evidence for developmental origins of vascular dysfunction yet little understanding of maturation of vascular smooth muscle (VSM) of regional circulations. We measured maturational changes in expression of myosin phosphatase (MP) and the broader VSM gene program in relation to mesenteric small resistance artery (SRA) function. We then tested the role of the sympathetic nervous system (...
متن کاملResponses of mesenteric and renal blood flow dynamics to acute denervation in anesthetized rats.
Previous studies have shown that renal autoregulation dynamically stabilizes renal blood flow (RBF). The role of renal nerves, particularly of a baroreflex component, in dynamic regulation of RBF remains unclear. The relative roles of autoregulation and mesenteric nerves in dynamic regulation of blood flow in the superior mesenteric artery (MBF) are similarly unclear. In this study, transfer fu...
